In India, peas are very important in the winter season. Not only because they contain protein in adequate amount but they also contain vitamins, phosphorus and iron elements in adequate amount.

 

  Soil and Climate

 

Peas can be produced in slight sandy soil to muddy soil, but the most suitable soil is with good drainage. Its production is not good in alkaline soil. Soil with pH between 6.0-7.5 is the best for its production.

  Sowing

 

Pre varieties like Aarkel can be sowed from mid October to first week of November. Mid seasoned varieties like Bonville and Linkon can be sowed from October till last week of November. Post varieties can be sowed till the end of November.

  Manure and Fertilizers

 

Small amount of nitrogenous manure is useful for the developement and growth of peas. The quality and yield can be improved by applying phosphate and potassium. After field cultivation use 20 tons of decomposed fertilizer and 125 kg Calcium Ammonium Nitrate or 60-65 kg Urea per hectare.
